Mentoring Opportunities

LCD’s Student Mentor Program matches law students of color from participating law schools in Connecticut with successful lawyers in LCD’s member organization network. Matching mentor and mentee begin with a solid profile of all participants. Pairing may be based on development goals, interests, or background. While the current program focuses on law students, many relationships formed continue informally for years. This program has been called “life-changing” by past participants and brings unparalleled value to both the mentor and mentee.

If you are a law student at any of the law schools in Connecticut or Western New England, you are eligible to apply to become a mentee.

Practicing attorneys from any of LCD’s Member Organizations can apply to become mentors.

** Mentor/Mentee Applications are CLOSED for the 2023 program year**

Professional Development & Networking

LCD presents numerous opportunities for individual attorneys and law students to explore professional development areas and grow their network of legal professionals. For example, our annual Best Practices Seminars have featured innovative approaches to building diverse and inclusive legal teams, tips for mentoring across differences, and more. We also host events with corporate general counsel, judges in the state and federal judiciary, and other leaders in the legal profession, with ample opportunities to network and learn about the pathways to those senior positions.

College Pipeline

The LCD College Pipeline Summer Internship Program provides college students with paid summer work experience, weekly seminars, and local visits (COVID permitting) to a courthouse, law schools, and other locations. In addition to exposing students to the daily responsibilities of working in a legal office, the program includes a summer-long mock trial program that culminates in every student participating in the mock trial, which is presided over by a judge of the Connecticut Superior Court. Many of our member organizations host one or more college interns.

We are recruiting Connecticut residents who are high achieving college students with an interest in a legal career. The program has a focus on  students who come from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in the legal profession.
