Hartford, CT (March 31, 2020): The Board of Directors is excited to announce that Joelle A. Murchison will join the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity (“LCD”) as its Executive Director on April 1, 2020.

Murchison comes to LCD as a career diversity and inclusion champion. She is a graduate of Brown University, Harvard Graduate School of Education and Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, and also currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Connecticut School of Business. She is currently leading ExecMommyGroup, LLC, a consulting firm she launched in 2018 for the purpose of providing strategic support to individuals and organizations for whom leveraging diversity and inclusion would create competitive advantage. Prior to the launch of her consulting firm Joelle was the inaugural Chief Diversity Officer at Connecticut’s flagship public institution, the University of Connecticut. She also worked as the Chief Diversity Officer at Travelers for almost a decade. During her time at Travelers, she engaged with the local chapters of the National Bar Association (George W. Crawford Law Society), the Hispanic National Bar Association (Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association), and the CT Asian Pacific American Bar Association (CAPABA), as vital partners, and also established partnerships and built relationships regionally and nationally.

A sought after D&I facilitator, coach and solution provider, Murchison has also mentored and advised countless students and young professionals as they have applied to law school and pursued their legal careers. Joelle also commits her time to several nonprofit organizations as board member and currently serves as the Chair of the board of RE-Center - Race and Equity in Education (formerly The Discovery Center) and is a director/trustee on several boards including the Amistad Center for Art and Culture (Hartford, CT), the Pembroke Center Associates, and College Possible, a national nonprofit focused on college access, among others.

Selected among a very competitive field of candidates, John Lynch, LCD Board President and a member of the Search Committee shared that Joelle was overwhelmingly supported by LCD’s Board of Directors. “Joelle’s expertise as a D&I practitioner, her demonstrated collaboration, advocacy and strong relationship building will facilitate LCD’s further evolution.”

At her core, Joelle is passionate about encouraging and inspiring all people to reach their highest potential and about creating space for open dialogue to enhance inclusion and understanding. She commented, “I look forward to working with the LCD Board and legal community to continue to provide opportunity, growth and a renewed commitment to increasing the representation and influence of attorneys of color and other diverse groups across the state of Connecticut…”
